Another successful King Salmon Derby is in the books! This year 211 people weighed in a total of 239 fish. This year, there are people from 12 US States and one from Canada that weighed in fish!
We have collected 83 donated prizes from our generous local businesses and the derby committee has purchased an additional 11 prizes. In addition to the top 3 cash prizes that is a total of 97 prizes! That means that the person in the 97th spot with a fish weighing 26.2 will win a prize. The local businesses donated a total of over $7500 and the Derby Committee spent around $2800 for a total of $10,300 in prizes. In addition, we will be giving out $18,475 in cash prizes, a new bike, a silver bracelet & 2 System-wide Alaska Airline tickets. That’s a grand total of over $31,000 in cash prizes! Now that’s what I call a great derby by a generous community.
So far we have sold a total of 922 tickets, which is up from last year’s 906 total tickets. It’s not too late to get your lucky ticket in for the cash drawings and the Alaska Airline tickets. You can even buy more than one to increase your chances!
