2008 4th Of July Celebration

 

The Wrangell Chamber of Commerce and the Fourth of July Committee would especially like to thank: Our Royalty Candidates: Brittany Lindley,Jessica Blunt, Mykayla Rooney, and 2008 Senior Parents. Their families, food, & ticket managers, Gene White, as overall Ticket Manager; all committee heads and their helpers, the community who answered the calls to support the Royalty Candidates, and all who put together another Fourth of July.

Tiny Tots Derby

2:30-4:00       City Dock-Summer Float

Ages 5 And under. Safety Rules: All Children must be accompanied by at least one adult, i.e.., parent, grandparent, ,aunt, ,uncle, babysitter or older siblings over the age of 14. CHILDREN MUST WEAR A LIFE JACKET AT ALL TIMES. Hand lines only, bring your own bait. Bring a can of “Tuna fish” for the local Salvation Army food bank and receive a special treat. Prizes.

June 30th last chance to register at 5:00pm

1:00 check in, 2:00 racing begings

(2nd Avenue next to senior apt.)

Entrants must be inspected prior to racing.

Helmets required. Waiver and Registration form must be signed by parent for youth under 18.

Great spectator sport, some bleachers provided, bring chairs. prizes.

Wednesday, July 2nd

Art Clark Scrap fish Derby

Summer float                                    12:00 -1:00

Two Age Categories: 6-9 & 10-13

Rules: No parents allowed on floats unless they are one of the volunteers.

All Children must bring life

 preservers and wear them. Hand lines only. No rod or reels. One hook must per line, One line per person. Contestants must bait their own hook and land their own fish if determined necessary.

Any kind of bait can be used. Bait will be supplied for children who do not have their own. In case of a tie for the largest fish,

A “fish-off” will be conducted with the contestant catching the first fish the winner. Each winning fish will be eligible for one prize only.

Derby officials will decide any questions not covered by the rules and their decision will be  final. The largest and smallest starfish will decision will win money prize but will not be counted for the bike or rod prize.

Big Wheels provided for the races, Children can bring their big wheels ( chairperson determines if they can be used) Children race against children of the same age and gender. at the end of the race. Prizes awarded, Grand Prize drawing for Gift Certificates at Sentry Hardware.

Independence Day Fun Run/Walk/Ride/bike

7:00 am Registration at the City Pool, Race begins at crosswalk in front of the swimming pool, proceed to the ferry terminal, around the airport loop, back to Church Street with the finish line at the cross walk in from the pool. (Distance: 2.9 miles) No entry fee. Anything goes, for more information call 874-2444

Thank you to those who took time to submit themes.  Floats gather on the outer drive , 9:30 am with the judging at 10:00. Entrants after 10:00 am will not be judged, but may participate.

Entry Fee is $10.00 for a single event, $25.00 for all events. Events are power bucking, Hand Buckling ingle, Idaho, Ma & Pa, Choker setting, Axe Chopping, and Axe throwing ( at $100.00 bill donated by Alaska Vistas)

A waiver of responsibility must be signed before any contestant may participant. This waiver provides that you enter the contestant may participate. This waiver provides that you enter the contest at your own risk. The Wrangell Chamber of Commerce Logging Show is a performance as well as a contest and we request that all contestants in money events are required to wear caulk or sturdy boots. No rubber boots or sneakers. In the interest of safety for all and the protection of the equipment contestants under any form of intoxication, (in the opinion of the judges) will not be allowed to participate. The decision of the Chairman will be final! All tools furnished.

Three legged race; Gunny Sack race; Tug of war; and egg toss.

All games will be played in age groups from 5 to senior citizens. Egg Toss will start at 3:30 pm, parents are asked to stay with small children during events. Organizers cannot provide babysitting.
